VINCI Extends Highway Maintenance Agreement with Hertfordshire County Council
The recently renewed contract encompasses over 5,000 kilometers of roadway and footpaths situated to the north of London. Spanning an initial period of seven years, there are opportunities for extensions up until 2046. The agreement is valued at no less than €65 million (£55 million) annually.
Hertfordshire County Council has opted to prolong its long-standing highways maintenance collaboration with Ringway, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction that operates within the UK and specializes in road infrastructure management. This partnership has been in place since 2012.
Key Details of the Contract Renewal
Commencing on October 1, 2025, the refreshed seven-year contract will include possibilities for prolonged engagement through to 2039 and ultimately extending into 2046.
The scope of work covers extensive maintenance tasks such as upgrades on more than 5,000 kilometers of roads and pathways, street lighting management, signal maintenance repairs, surface water drainage improvements, pothole remediation efforts as well as seasonal services like gritting and grass-cutting initiatives. The contract also includes provisions for emergency responses as needed.

Building upon advancements established during the previous contractual phase — which saw innovations such as a robotic system designed to prevent potholes alongside an electric gritter — Ringway commits to supporting local sustainability goals aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by the year 2030. Initiatives under this approach include increasing their fleet’s electric vehicle count while amplifying recycling efforts alongside utilizing recyclable materials whenever feasible.

Currently managing several multi-year contracts throughout Great Britain, Ringway oversees approximately 50,000 kilometers across urban roads—encompassing highways and major motorways—ensuring effective maintenance across various regions.
