The Prime Minister and Canada’s new administration are concentrating on essential current priorities: generating higher-wage employment, forging new trade connections with trustworthy partners, and enhancing security throughout Canada.
In alignment with these goals, the Prime Minister has announced a trip to Paris, France; London, UK; and Iqaluit, Nunavut from March 16 to 18, 2025. This journey aims to reinforce our significant economic and security alliances while affirming Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic region.
During his stop in Paris, Prime Minister Carney is scheduled to engage with French President Emmanuel Macron. Building upon the foundation of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), they will discuss their mutual commitment to strengthening economic relations as well as defense collaborations. Furthermore, Prime Minister Carney intends to highlight Canada’s efforts in safely harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) for innovation and economic growth.
Next on his agenda is London where he will meet UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Their conversations will emphasize enhancing transatlantic security while expanding opportunities within the AI industry alongside bolstering trade links between Canada and the United Kingdom. They aim to explore potential avenues for enriching bilateral commerce through frameworks such as the Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Additionally, an audience with His Majesty King Charles III is planned during this visit.
On March 18th, Prime Minister Carney will head towards Iqaluit in Nunavut to reaffirm Canada’s stance on Arctic sovereignty. He plans discussions with members of the Iqaluit Patrol from 1 Canadian Rangers Patrol Group — a crucial entity for ensuring stability in this pivotal area.
Furthermore, he will have talks with Nunavut’s Premier P.J. Akeeagok regarding pressing needs within Arctic communities while underscoring governmental support aimed at fostering economic development across Northern regions. The emphasis remains on reinforcing sovereignty and securing progress towards reconciliation efforts involving First Nations peoples across Canada.
