West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Embraces London During Official Visit
Kolkata/London, March 25 (PTI) – On her official trip to the United Kingdom, West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee engaged in a refreshing morning jog at the renowned Hyde Park in London. Adorned in a traditional white saree featuring a green border and her customary white slippers, Banerjee embraced the chilly weather with a black cardigan and shawl while jogging and exploring the city.
Accompanied by fellow members of her delegation, she strolled from Buckingham Palace to Hyde Park, taking in the picturesque surroundings that London has to offer.
Social Media Highlights of Her Active Morning
A video posted by Kunal Ghosh, a leader from Trinamool Congress who accompanies Banerjee on this trip, london-stock-exchange-by-storm-on-investors-day/” title=”Deputy President Paulus Mashatile Takes London Stock Exchange by Storm on Investors' Day”>showcased what he described as her “warm-up” routine. The footage captured moments of applause and even back-walking as part of her exercise regimen.
This isn’t an isolated instance; during another international engagement in Spain earlier this year, she was seen jogging through Madrid dressed similarly.
A Reflection on Kolkata’s Historic Connection with London
Banerjee landed in London on Sunday. In an insightful post shared on X subsequent to her arrival, she articulated thoughts about the enduring relationship between Kolkata and London: “Bengal holds a historical connection with Britain that is rich with cultural significance and commercial interplay. As we set foot in this vibrant city yesterday, it became evident that like Kolkata, it embodies both historical weight and present dynamism.” She expressed excitement for engaging further ahead: “Before my scheduled activities began today, I took time to soak up London’s remarkable legacy—its iconic structures tell tales of an evolving history which resonates deeply with us.”
It’s interesting to note that Kolkata was known as Calcutta until 1911 when it served as the capital during British rule over India.
Culminating Events at India House
Later during her visit, Banerjee participated in a high tea event hosted at India House by High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami. This gathering connected various stakeholders across business sectors along with political figures who share common aspirations — enhancing relationships between Bengal and Britain.
“Attending high tea hosted by Shri Vikram K. Doraiswami at India House was indeed an honor,” remarked Banerjee following the event on X. “The meeting showcased diverse representatives united for fostering Bengal-Britain relations—trust-driven partnerships are essential as we adapt our approach towards collaborations.”
A Focused Agenda for Future Collaborations
The discussions held during this sophisticated gathering addressed important themes such as economic collaborations and strengthened community connections among people from both regions.
“My gratitude goes out for being part of today’s significant dialogue regarding investment opportunities,” stated Banerjee after underscoring collaboration’s critical role: “West Bengal aims not merely structuring trade ties but nurturing meaningful relationships for mutual growth across borders.” She advocates constructing bridges rather than barriers: “We welcome collaboration globally without walls inhibiting progress.”

Mamata Banerjee commenced her journey towards London on March 22; she will deliver an academic lecture at Oxford University on March 27 before meeting industrialists seekign investments vital for West Bengal’s advancement slated for March 25.
